Something seems kind of fishy to me...I can't see Apple releasing 2 different iPhone 5 models at the same time (5C and the 5S). It just doesn't seem like something Apple would do. It could cause confusion amongst customers and what not...

I'm starting to think that there will indeed be a plastic iPhone 5C, but the "5S" we've all been hearing about will actually be the iPhone 6. I'm hoping it will have a larger screen, but perhaps not. I mean, the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 had the same screen size, so going from 5S to 6 doesn't necessarily guarantee a new/larger screen.

I'm thinking the iPhone 6 is the high-end model we've all been seeing, with fingerprint sensor and possible gold color option with 128 GB storage. All models will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The iPhone 5 and 4S will become obsolete, and replaced with the iPhone 5C, which will be made of plastic and available only in 16GB models (in multiple colors) for $99 with a 2-year contract.

Just a guess...

How could it cause confusion?
You have a choice between a higher end phone, and a lower end one. Both supporting the latest OS and software.

As for the rest, it appears to me you're discussing just about the naming. How is that important? 5S or 6, no one cares. It is reasonable to assume that the 5S will boast the same design of the 5, thus carrying its name.
There are little to no hopes for a screen larger than 4" now, since there is no evidence of it, and the device has already entered mass production at this point, as many sources report and common sense suggests.

I think the OP is losing his mind. There's no a single shred of evidence to suggest this would happen.

Of course I don't think there's been evidence it won't happen either. There seems to be evidence that the 5C name is a given. I think 5S/5C would be a perfect naming pair to show that it's the same model year of phones.

However, once Apple has 2 different phone models they're updating each year, they may just step through model numbers each year - 5C/5S to 6C/6S to 7C/7S, etc.

So are you saying customers are confused between iPod, iPod Nano, Touch?

Customers won't be able to tell a finely crafted classic iPhone vs a, lets say classically "Taiwan manufactured" phone?

As long as u can tell, don't worry about the Joneses.

And as we get closer to the launch, we'll see increasing leaks of the 5S designed to reduce over-expectations...

Despite what others on here are saying (some rather rude and arrogantly), I don't think you're wrong at all in assuming two iPhones released on the same day with virtually the same functionality would potentially confuse consumers. But, rather than conclude the 5S is the 6, go back to the confusion of the consumer and turn it around.

What I mean is, what if they announced and released two phones that weren't confusing to the consumer? What if the two phones they released weren't confusing at all, that they were so different there was no confusion.

Imagine they released an iPod Shuffle and an iPod nano and an iPod Touch on the same day, actually, we don't have to imagine it, we only need look at history -> there wasn't mass confusion caused by these releases for one reason: Apple properly differentiated the features and functionality of these products such that to the average consumer they were obviously different products, differentiated by more than merely a price tag.

Given Apple can do this, it's entirely feasible they will do it again, so assume therefore that the two products will be the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C -> all Apple needs to do is make them so different there is no confusion in the mind of the average consumer.

The 5S is sort of obvious (if they do what they've done twice already), the wild card is the 5C and I think we're in for something very different than what most people on here assume (it's not going to be a 4S in a plastic '5' body -> that would be confusing as you rightly point out).

It hasn't been a problem with the 32GB and 64GB iPod touch (rear camera) vs. the 16GB iPod touch (same body, no rear camera). Most people are able to read basic specs and (where applicable) understand product positioning from Specialists.

LOL! Odds are certainly slim. But I wouldn't say totally impossible. Improbable, yes. :p

He's not joking and very likely is correct. The two new iPhones in September will be the 5C and the 5S and next year it's time for the iPhone 6.

If there was a 6 it would have leaked by now.

Some secrets are too big to stay hidden.

No it's going to be the 5ac.

It will be so named because of the wifi, but also because the chipset will run so much cooler it will secretly mean air conditioning, as well as alternate colours.

The leaked pictures of the plastic phone are the iPhone 6 not the 5C.

My friend's brother's dentist's acupuncturist's cousin has a friend who works at Starbucks in Cupertino. He knows.

....but, it could happen.

The leaked '5S' parts point to the same design and screen size as the iPhone 5. So no bigger screen, and no redesign usually means it's an S model.

I don't think we've actually had any leaked photos of the front of the new 5s?

Maybe they have enlarged the screen while still keeping the same size shell? Anyone know how big the screen could be if they went edge to edge?

Wishful thinking I know.......

See OP I'm thinking you're wrong and that the gold "5S" we are seeing is the iPhone 7 and the white and black models are the 6.:rolleyes::eek:

Some people choose to see what they want to see, rather see what's in front of them.

1. Yes, Apple is launching two new phones this fall. One is a minor upgrade from the i5 and the other is a cheaper plastic iPhone (for cost minded folks and worldwide distribution).

2. No, there is no larger iPhone coming this fall. If there were we would see leaks all the over the place. Unless Apple bought a space station and is manufacturing a secret phone up there, there is no redesigned/larger iPhone.

maybe 1/2" wider, and 1/2" longer?
