I have the new iMac which has USB 3. I am considering getting a USB 3 hub. Should I get a powered hub or not, and is it really necessary to get the powered hub? Would there be much of a difference if it's powered or not? It would just be used for backup and syncing an iPad with iTunes etc. I have wireless printers, so I wouldn't be using a hub for that.
Would the difference just be speed using a powered hub? The fewer wires and bricks the better for me. I've got enough wires dangling around. :)
thanks for a reply.....

You are always almost guaranteed optimal performance with the externally powered hub

Tigerdirect has plenty of them in the $10-20 range. Get powered if you ever want to use those ports for charging or transfering/syncing from iTunes

Get the belkin hub on amazon
You gotta be careful buying usb 3.0 hubs for the mac , I had to return 2
One made my computer shutdown during sleep. & the other would disconnect my mouse & keyboard
