I was looking to maybe upgrade my memory on my iMac. The apple store has a 512 module for 200 bucks. Other sites are priced at 69.99 or 89.99 and up for 512 upgrades.

Are these of lesser quality or is memory just memory?

Apple simply over charge for memory. You can get good and bad memory but just stick with big manufacturers like Crucial and you'll be fine.

Also, 512 RAM for either the flat panel iMac or the 350-700mhz models will run you around $60, the cheapest store being 53. Check out ramseeker, and remember, Crucial ships for free, and their prices are higher to start with, but you know it'al be good.

Yeah, I remember buying 1024 ram for my pc for about 60 bucks. Upgraded from 128 and did not see any difference. (was worse if anything).

I thought apple may be different since they are not making it for millions of different hardware.

I just paid 2k for my mac, I don't think I'll cheapen it.

Thanks.
