I have a 2012 21.5" iMac and an iPad 2.

I'm going to try and learn Xcode and thought it might be handy to have my ipad as a 2nd monitor.

Can someone recommend me an app, or will the next version of Mac OS, Mavericks, do this natively? Or even better will Mountain Lion do this now?

What can be done with it? I'll not use it that much, but might be handy. Any tips?

Cheers

There's this great web-site at http://www.google.com that helps you answer questions like this by, for example, searching for 'ipad as second monitor'. Here's the first hit:

Theres also this great Apple forum for the original poster to make use of, which they have in a correct manner.

I haven't tried using my iPad as a second monitor but I understand there is one. Someone will be able to give you the definitive answer

I use air-display, and frankly, I find my ipad is very slow to refresh. I think if you really want a second display, spend a little extra on a cheap monitor.

I don't think Mavericks allows the functionality you have in mind either.

Woah if we're going that route every question you've asked you should have Googled to. This forum is for specifics recommendations from real users etc.

Ah ok that's Abazigal, I was hoping might be native save me getting an app. Don't want a 2nd permanent monitor it was just an idea

Apologies if I came across as a bit blunt, and perhaps a bit sarcastic - ok, a lot sarcastic! :) But yes, I always google first - extensively - and only ask in a forum if I really, really draw a blank on google.
