If you have to have Windows and you have a choice, go for Windows 7.

Windows 8 all the way. Zero reason to stick with 7 now that the 8.1 update is releasing in October.

Especially if you'll be using bootcamp for gaming as I do, 8.1 will get the new DirectX 11.1 which is awesome.
