The Java class file "PopSampleApplet.class" could not be launched.

I am just a Statistics teacher who is trying to use an applet which was on the CD-ROM which accompanied the textbook. (The previous two years, this applet opened with no problem.)

The file from the CD-ROM disk is PopSampleApplet.class.

When I click to open it, I get this message:
The Java class file "PopSampleApplet.class" could not be launched.
What should my next step be?
