Problem with high CPU usage with Preview on a 2013 Macbook Air

Hi, I have been having issues with preview on my 2013 macbook air. Whenever i make a few annotations to a PDF that is greater than 50MB, my computer bogs down. The CPU usage shoots up to 100% on the activity monitor. Does anyone else suffer from this issue? Is there an update for Preview that addresses this issue? I don't have these problems with my rMBP. Thanks.

Anyone? This is really frustrating when I'm taking notes and preview won't respond because of 100% cpu usage. I lose all of my annotations.

I use Adobe Reader on my 2011 i5/4GB MBA with Mountain Lion and no problems with CPU usage when annotating large 1000+ pages 100+ MB PDF colored textbooks.
