If I run an external USB hard drive (of whatever size) off my older iMac G5 that's powered via the USB cable, is there a difference in my Mac's operational speed than if I used an external USB hard drive that's powered by a separate "power brick"?
N, as the small amount of power needed for the USB HDD does not detract from the power the processor needs, as there is enough power flowing though that Mac to support all power hungry elements in there.
