What does everyone else think of Space Gray replacing Slate? Does it looks boring?

I really liked the slate iphone 5 when it was released. It had a stealth bomber matte look with a hint of blue that was just amazing.

The new one... well it looks boring. It removes color from it's surroundings. It's not even a very attractive shade of gray, it's "Walmart shopping bag gray".

Is anyone else bored by this new color?

In my opinion it looks awesome. I love contrast. Slate looked okay, but I appreciate the more two tone look. If I get the 5S, I'm getting the "space gray".

I prefer the stealth mode look of the slate iPhone 5. If I had to choose one for the iPhone 5S, I'd definitely get the white over the grey.

I like the new Space Gray. It shows off the Apple logo on the back much better. It may wear better too.

Apple changed the of anodizing the slate iPhone 5 in May of 2013 so that it no longer has the same wear and tear issues as the launch day iPhone.

My iPhone 5 has been treated like absolute junk with no rear protective case and still looks 100% brand new.

Don't know about boring - but hopefully more suited to purpose and much more difficult to scuff.

Pretty hard when the iPhone 5 was released in September 2012... ;)

Again Apple fixed the slate scuffing issue in May 2013. The space gray one will have the exact same scuff resistance as the old model. The only way they can improve durability is by adding texture which improves the bonding surface, the space gray model has the same texture on the glossy bits as the May 2013 Slate revision which means there is no improvement.

I looked into the materials science behind this in the middle of this year for a technical article I wrote about the issue.

i actually wish the whole back was grey. In my opinion the black bits dont compliment the grey in a positive way.

It's still my color of choice though.

Good to know. What about the chamfers? I have the black iPhone 5 and it's been in its case since the day I got it last September.

I love the space gray! I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to hold onto my iPhone 5 or get the 5S...

I don't believe this for a second. There was no reason to discontinue the 5. Link the article.

They did it so they don't have to listen to you obnoxious people talk about "scuff gate 2" since the edges are coated anymore.

When I bought my I5 I got white to change it up from so many black phones. However, if the grey had been out I might have gotten that. I like the grey but I like black cars, grey cars white cars. I'm a primary colors kind of guy!!

I prefer the slate/black iPhone 5. It's the near Darth Vader iPhone...

If I ever upgrade soon I will grab a white model and be demoted to a Storm Trooper

ding ding ding

100% why apple replaced the slate

I personally think it's sexy. Reminds me of the black iPhone 4, which at the time, was the best looking iPhone to date, IMO
