So I'm in this notes group and people put lecture slides in dropbox with notes from the lecture. I was hoping to buy keynote but I wasn't sure I would be able to view the notes that were taken on powerpoint?

Any experience?

Also, from what I understand a new OS is about to come out, would it be smart to wait until that comes out to purchase keynote?

Thanks!!!!!

Yes, tested it - Keynote can show the presenter notes created in PowerPoint. It's under View menu > Show Presenter Notes.

If you purchase Keynote today (through Mac App Store), it will definitely still work with OS X Mavericks (next version of OS X) when it comes out in late October.

A new version of Keynote is also expected before end of 2013, and I think it will be a free upgrade to anyone who has purchased Keynote through Mac App Store. I would suggest get Keynote today.
