Hi, are mac formats- case sensitive, journaled, encrypted formats readable in Windows 8 ? I want to backup my windows and mac drives on to ONE external hard drive. I heard that exfat format with both so could I make two backups ( one windows 8 and one mac mountain lion ) on to an EXFAT format external drive ?

This could become complicated depending on what you are using to do the backup on the Macintosh, what you are using for Windows, etc. I have not tried the Windows Image Backup Windows 8, so I am not sure if it requires NTFS or if it will work with ExFAT.

Can you state more clearly exactly what you wish to do?
