May different module RAM damage MacBook ?

You'll lose dual channel mode with 8GB/2GB. If you aren't planning on needing 16GB then go 8GB matched.

I believe it is slightly slower in single channel (somewhere around 10% from what I remember). But it's more memory vs slightly more speed. Personally I'd take more memory, if I was planning an upgrade later. I have a maxed 8gb in my 08 MBP and max the ram with aperture, chrome, photoshop, and a few other things running. Of course, I'm editing in aperture and photoshop and usually have 40 (2gb worth) iof chrome tabs open. I'd gladly upgrade to 16 if I could. But my needs are not your needs, to each his own.

If you can't afford, or simply don't want to go to 16Gigs right now, then going 8&2 will be fine. In all honesty, you will experience no noticeable effects, unless you are performing same advanced processing on the machine. Normally daily use will be just fine.

You are not hurting/harming your computer by running 8&2.

With as much memory as 8GB, another 2GB won't make too much of a difference. If 8GB isn't enough for you, 10GB will become inadequate in no time too.

From what I can tell, 8GB should last you for quite a while with your current usage. However, if you feel that you'll be expanding in the near future, buy the single 8GB DIMM. You can always get another one later.
