Pointing Out Trolling is Name Calling

I pointed out an obvious troll was trolling and I received a warning for name calling. This is not the first time it has happened. This is not name calling. I am not calling him an ugly green monster. I am pointing out their post was trolling. You will say it is a personal attack instead of discussing what he said. While I disagree with that position, it is no different than calling someone a fanboy.

In a 30 second scan of the same thread I found 6 people refer to others or the forum users in general as fan boys. Were all of those people sent warnings? The forum would be much better served by moderators that moderated obvious trolls instead of warning people who are doing that job for them.

I give the mods permission to look at my history as i want to discuss current moderation. I am sure I will now be banned for posting sensible feedback in the feedback forum.

I have done this in the past, and always give up because they continue to troll without any noticeable interruption.

My real issue (and the point of my feedback) is that calling someones post trolling is not name calling. Period.
 
The forum rules are fairly clear about name calling. You cannot call someone a troll or any other negative/derogatory term. Calling someone a fanboy, directly, is also not allowed.

If you see rules violations, please use the Report (
report.gif
) button to bring it to our attention.

Insults. Direct personal insult of another forum member (e.g., "You are an idiot.") and other name-calling. Why? Because this isn't grade school. People should be able to discuss or even dispute other's posts without insulting people. You may dispute somebody's opinion but not attack/flame the person who stated it. There are a lot of other non-direct-personal insults that won't necessary get you banned instantly, but depending on the context/nature may lead to post editing, post deletion, warnings, or time-outs. They include telling people to shut up and being extremely or repeatedly rude or sarcastic. It's not your place to tell other users they are not welcome; if they follow the rules, they are welcome. Bottom line -- don't try to tick off others and don't make discussions unnecessarily personal. If somebody else insults you, report their post; their post does not give you a license to break the rules by returning their insults. Although we do not read Private Messages sent between forum members, the rules for appropriate and inappropriate content apply to them as well.

What SandboxGeneral posted is correct.

Since you've given explicit permission, I've taken a look. The records show that you've called other members "troll" at least three times:

  • June 29, 2010 ("Ahh but you are a troll :rolleyes:") No moderation reaction, but it was deleted.
  • October 28, 2011 ("He's a troll, always has been. He is actually a good candidate for troll picture in the dictionary.")
  • Sept 23, 2013 ("Your not a very good troll")

You received a reminder for the second violation, with the following message:

Please don't result to name calling to deal with users you feel are trolling. Please report posts or simply ignore them.

You only received a reminder, and the message asking you to act differently in the future was polite.

As far as other members' posts, there are no doubt posts in the forums that are rules violations. If they are still visible or unedited, we didn't see them or they weren't brought to our attention via reports. Every member is responsible for his own posts, however, so you can't use someone else's violation to justify your own.

The moderation that was done to your post today was not only appropriate under our rules, it was lenient Moderation is escalated with each violation, so you could have been issued a warning. The moderators sent the mildest reaction possible.

You don't have to agree with these rules, but you agreed to read and accept them as part of the registration agreement. So we do expect you to follow them.
