I currently sync my phone with Google contacts. It works great except that if I meet someone and add them into my address book on my phone, they don't appear in my Google contacts after syncing. On the other hand, if I add a contact in my Gmail, then they will appear in my iPhone contact list after the next sync (and I do still want this).

Any way to get my contacts to automatically update both ways to stay perfectly in sync?

Look up how to set up CardDAV. There might be a bit of a delay with the sync at times, but usually it's pretty speedy (if not instant).
