This post goes out to all New Yorkers. I just had a harrowingly horrible time at TekServe to the point where I want everyone to know about it. I posted a short-ish version of the awful experience on my blog, but it contains some profanity, so I don't want to post the text here. Here's a link, though:

I know a lot of people have horrible experiences there, and right now I'd love to hear them. Post here and let's put those jerks out of business.

Yes Tekserve can suck. Remember that they are staffed by mostly a bunch of part time college kids who at one time installed an Apple OS on thier own which has now entitled them to be a "technician". Anyone actually skilled at mac repair is working at a company that will pay them a livable wage and NOT at Tekserve. Unfortunately they are the only act in town (other than Digital Society of course) so they can do as they please and in a city like New York thier is no shortage of Mac users (LOTS OF CREATIVES!). Im sorry you had a bad experience with them and I have too, but I have also had good experiences as well. Same with Digital Society, both good and bad experiences. All I can say is just be glad you live in a city where you have the option to see a "Mac Specialist" unlike most places where you will probably need to send your Mac away for who knows how long and to who knows where with no guarentee it will be remedied and still have to pay for the service.

True

Thanks for all the reality checks. And I know most of my ire should and is focussed at the Scott D. mentioned in my post.

But that kind of attitude comes from/is permitted by someone at the top. And that guy at the top should be stopped (or at least told).

My current computer was purchased from TekServe in 2000. I have not had any awful experiences there or feel any special loyalty that would make me buy from them again, but I do agree that several employees are short on social skills while a few others are abrasive.

In all fairness, I have also found that mix of qualities to be the case at the Apple Store in Soho. No one place is likely to be perfect in every respect and I seriously doubt that your dream of seeing TekServe put out of business will be realized anytime soon.

Whenever I stop in it is always busy and the wait time can be lengthy. One other point is worthy of being made ... having a perfectly legitimate basis for a grievance is one thing, but more sympathy and support usually are extended to those who avoid the temptation to rely upon profanity.

yeah i can't stand that place. if only i had the money to startup some competition. i'm doing pretty good with MacLessons here in Woodstock, 2 hours from NYC, and once i start advertising....

anyway, i've had a couple of BAD experiences, and no good ones. and i've heard other bad experiences from others. when i had my wallst pb they tried inserting the DVD decoder pcmcia card in upside down  and someone i worked with had to go back 4 times because they gave her the wrong memory (and i know this was not her fault, it was theirs).

i think i'm going to start advertising on craigslist...
