I've been using a MacBook since 2009, and now that I'm out of college I want a desktop. I am looking at the refurbished 2012 21.5" iMacs. Love how it only has a single cable and has a small foot print yet a beautiful display and nice sounding integrated speakers.

The most demanding application would be League of Legends, which I play via Windows because the Mac Client is terrible. I would like to know if the 2012 iMac can play League at native 1080p at 60 fps. I'm fine with low quality. If so, do you have the 640M or the 650M?

LoL isn't a particularly GPU intensive game, and a playable 1080p on a 650M is likely possible, but I don't know if you'll maintain a steady 60FPS during busy scenes.

You're unlikely to get a lot of "first hand" answers given that most gamers on this forum aim for 27" models, but some investigation on http://www.anandtech.com/show/7399/...review-iris-pro-driving-an-accurate-display/3 (look at the benches for the 650M; ignore the rest of the review) and http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/1...imac-takes-two-steps-forward-one-step-back/3/ shows that a 650M can do 60FPS in a few games, but once you start pushing towards 1920x1080 it just runs out of bandwidth.

I don't have an iMac but this should give you an idea for graphics performance. I play LoL on my 2013 11" MacBook Air connected to a 1920x1200 display (more pixels than a 1080P display!!!) in clamshell mode. It's got Intel HD 5000 integrated graphics with 1024MB (1GB) of VRAM. In LoL, I set every graphics setting on high except for shadows which is medium. I get 40-50 fps at 1920x1200 resolution. And this is coming from integrated graphics. I'm sure you can get a constant 60 fps (maybe rare dips below that) with everything set on high with the 2012 iMacs.

Oh and I use the Mac client. It's gotten a lot better in the past few months in terms of performance. I used to get 30-40 fps about a month ago. Then came a client update (I forget which one) in the last few weeks and now I get 40-50 no problem.

for now i still have the 21.5" imac with 650M and i play LOL on MACOS and i get 60FPS but in combats and when you select spells that has AOE effect the FPS drops to 30FPS. But im sure in bootcamp you will get 50-60fps all the time.

My settings are high with shadows low at 1080p

i still waiting for my 27" 780M, probably next week i will tell you even with that dGPU how it performs

Thanks League fans! It's great seeing what people get on different machines. I picked up a refurb 2012 iMac with the 640M. It arrives tomorrow, and I'll be sure to let people know how it does in Windows and OS X.
