2013 Macbook Air Mavericks Battery Life thread

Good thing this is "Official" ... I would never think to read it if it was unofficial.

well, since this is "official" I'll post here. I bought a 2013 13" Air last night and upgraded to Mavericks immediately.

Was at 75% at 12:45 and at 53% at 2:25 as i write this that's over 20 % in only a little more than 90 minutes doing nothing but web browsing and watching and then downloading a 5 min 200mb video

Does that seem unusually poor?

Might be Spotlight indexing that is running (?) This is (atleast in ML) known for beeing a resource hog. Indexing happens the first time you start up a mac. And as stated by previous poster, the os installation is quite resource heavy.
Just use it as normal and see what performance you get from the battery after a day or so.

i just drop-kicked battery hogging Chrome to the curb on my Air, now on Safari.

very cool that Apple has also decided to play nice in terms of iCloud bookmark syncing between Safari on Mac and Chrome on Windows:

To be fully empirical, you should fully charge it over night, and measure it throughout the day as you use it down to 0-5%. I normally use my iphone timer app to see how long it's really lasting.

Macbook air 2013 13" show 9 hours remaining on 87%.Not even close to ML 10.8.5 15 hours on 100%

I perform a clean mavericks install, but the battery life seems to be shortened a lot. Reset SMC is doing no good. Spotlight indexing is finished.

I installed basic software including fruit juice,iWork, office 2011 14.3.8 ,Aperture and Clean My Mac 2.

Running Safari(no flash played), Email with bluetooth off, wifi on and 75% lightness.

What is the battery drain come from when system energy saver show no app consume lots of energy? Or maybe mavericks need several cycle to calculate the estimated time accurately?

Could somebody kindly help me on this one?

I've been able to get a consistent 10-11 hours on my 11" MacBook Air, so I think that's more than advertised already.

Much like getting a new machine, Mavericks will need a few days to get everything where it wants/needs it. Run Mavericks for a week and then post up your battery life.

Seems OK to me!

I've never seen the estimated time above 12 hours and change before..

ETA - jumped over 16 hours while at 92%..definitely a new record.

For me, Battery life has been worse so far... check this out



Been using for like half an hour and have 82% left. Only safari browsing. Nothing else. Turned off dropbox, bitcasa, creative cloud, just safari.

A bit strange.

Useless without any data from just before you upgraded to Mavericks.

Same problem....... 4 hrs on 100%

NOT HAPPY

Used my 11" for the full charge and got 13+ hours.. just damn impressive!

I don't believe any of these 13+ hour post to much variation

I was considering dropping Chrome unless I wanted to cast using my chrome cast. I have a lot of bookmarks I sync on my windows desktop, but if iCloud can keep them synced to safari I may go back to safari on my Air. Thanks for the useful link! Is safari also faster on OS X than Chrome along with power saving?

My 2013 13inch got worse too, about 7 hours on 10.9, before it was at least 11 hours.

Yeah, you're right.

I have a Macbook air bought a month ago, 11" and with Mountain Lion I used to get around 7-8 hours surfing on Safari, keeping Mail and Echofon open, with 50% brightness. And if I turned the brightness down to 3-4 blocks, with 100% battery it would tell me that I had 9-10 hours left.

Now with nothing but safari it tells me that i have around 5 hours at 100%.
I've checked Activity monitor and there's nothing weird, even tried to terminate all the small processes, no change.

Really pissed off. Anybody else experiencing this?

Hi, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it very much, I buy a macbook air 13 mid 2013 the base model, my use will be very light, navigation, social networking, YouTube, iTunes and office. Now the question, it is worth upgrading to mavericks or it will drop the battery life? It's my first mac so any comment is welcome, thanks

When I upgraded my 11" 2013 MBA, I was getting half the battery life I had from ML.. So I reverted. (Not a clean install.)

Current base 11 inch. Appreciate that the timer is not scientific but that number is crazy for an 11 inch considering it was quoted 9hrs when it shipped with 10.8. I think if this was Mavericks' only feature it would have been epic.
