So am I the only one who feels like Mavericks kind of stinks?

I updated to Mavericks because it has some great features.

I didn't anticipate it sucking.

My Safari loads pages slower for sure.

Sometimes if I swipe as if to go back in history in safari, it goes half an inch and the tab freezes. I have to close that tab because its useless.

Minecraft gets 30 FPS compared to the 60 or so I got on ML.

I've already repaired permissions and restarted a few times and its not gotten better. I'm afraid I may have to install a partition with ML on it to hold me over until Mavericks gets on top of its game.

What do you all think of it? Anyone with similar experiences?

Everything on my 2013 MBA is noticeably slower and Preview is now broken. All bookmarks were missing and when I tried to add them back it just froze.

Guess you get what you pay for...

Perhaps you should try a clean install? I've also got a 2013 MBA, and Mavericks is faster in every way than ML was. Very snappy and responsive. Preview works fine here as well.

It could also just be spotlight re-indexing if you just barely upgraded. When you upgrade to MV on the first boot spotlight will re-index all your files, which will take a while and use a lot of resources if you have many files.

Mavericks on my MBP is amazing. Even during the developer previews - when ever I went back to Mountain Lion I could tell the difference.

Mavericks is faster and more refined. Sounds like you have a botched setup.

I'm genuinely annoyed by the default wallpaper. WTF is up with that 8 bit ugly wave thing?

No. How do I do that? Only method I know if is the USB key thing they used for lion? I'd be willing to try to set up a partition with this on it for sure.

I didn't do a clean install and I can definitely see how much faster Mavericks is. There are some annoying bugs but nothing that results in performance degradation. Hopefully 10.9.1 fixes the scrolling issue where it stutters a bit and some of the graphical glitches.

Maybe run activity monitor and see what's going on. Too many people upgrading and immediately complaining about chopping performance. Let spotlight and whatever else finish their background tasks.

I have a Mid 2012 15" RMBP and it is faster and more responsive, although booting is much slower compared to Mountain Lion. Under ML, I would go from grey logo screen to login screen in under two seconds. Now it takes about five. Not objectionable, but wonder why it takes twice as long to boot?

Otherwise graphics are smoother and overall the system feels more responsive.

Don't have time or energy to do a fresh install so I'll just see if it rides it out.

am good here (altho had some weird safari thing; fixed with a reboot).

so far...everything seems faster. am liking the new calendar; adapting to the new Notes app.

safari is fast. most of my 'hacks' work (black menubar, locking away the dock, hiding notification menubar icon...etc).

day 1, anyway LOL. we'll see how the week goes. but the speed is nice, and hoping the stability is there...these are the 2 things i want most.

The bookmark function in preview is just gone, not that it doesn't work its just not there anymore.

I'm sorry to disagree with you on this, but I'd rather pay, within reasonable terms, for something that actually works and saves me trouble, than having to deal with an OS on my computer that is only making my interaction and work with it way harder. That is exactly why I left Windows and decided to move to the Mac/Apple environment.
It is not that much about how much you Pay in actual money but about the amount of time you end up wasting for having an Operating System full of flaws.
Learned my Lesson with Windows Vista and OSX Lion.
