I have a rather strict ipfw configuration allowing just web/ftp/appstore access. It worked fine on Lion but on Mavericks it blocks any web browsing. Looking at tcpdump log I suspect that now Mavericks require UPnP.
Can anyone guess/confirm what has changed in networking subsystem of this OS X release? I hate UPnP as it feels like I have no controll of what's punching holes through network to my data... so if it turns out it's the truth ...
