So I am seriously considering purchasing a new SSD for my MacBook Pro. I am concerned about the whole data transfer process though. I have parallels running Windows 7 on my machine and I want to be sure I'll be able to keep all of my programs from my old hard drive. Is there a specific way to do this? Or do I just restore from my iCloud backup and everything should be okay? Thanks.

Question about transferring data from HDD to SSD.

How exactly would that work though? I download the software and make a bootable backup and then install the ssd?
The most straightforward way is probably to first connect the new SSD as an external drive, download either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper! to your internal drive and use the program to copy a full, bootable clone to the new SSD. Then check things out by booting up from the external SSD. (Hold the option key down while the system does a restart and you should be prompted to select the boot drive.) If that goes well, you should be good to go to replace the internal drive with the SSD.
