So I found out we were never going to get a update for 10.9 from the IconFactory and set off to find a way to still use Candybar with 10.9 for my system icons. I found a way but it has some caveats, Retina displays use @2x icons in the dock so finder and trash would have to be manually edited to accommodate those with retina displays and also it seems like the icons are cached, it took me a couple of cache cleans with mavericks cache cleaner and about 2 restarts cleaning each time to get them all changed properly.

So this is how it works, there is a file attached and in it is a plist and a folder named 10.9.
1) Put the IconData.plist into your English.lproj folder in the Candybar.app/Contents/Resources/ of the app itself (They have more localized ones also but I only did the English version)
2) The folder 10.9 contains all the backup icons for 10.9 that are needed to restore. This folder is to be placed in the Candybar.app/Contents/Resources/backup-icons/ folder where you will see folders for all the other supported OS versions

I must stress.. THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON 10.9 as I removed all support for the old versions in the plist
Before its asked yes I will keep it updated as long as I can for myself so I will share back to the community as it took a bunch of time consuming work over the last 3 days to complete this and I will save you guys the time :D

Also it should go without saying DON'T UPDATE THE DEFINITIONS with the bar that shows up dump these files in there and run it it should be all good.

Hope other can use this also and if you spread the word just be sure to link back to these instructions in this post

ENJOY!

Thank you. Though people can try alternatives including Iconbox. I have both Candybar and Iconbox now.

I really don't get this...I used to use Candybar until i realised how pointless it is.

Why go through all this hassle, then it breaks or becomes incompatible when you can spend probably the same amount of time changing the icons yourself using the info pane?

I like having a nice organized library of icons that I can easily apply with simple drag and drop vs opening every icon in 20 diff places and copying and pasting from an unorganized folder but to each their own I guess.

the experience i had with candy bar was that every time OS X was updated or some apps were updated, it broke candy bar and had to wait for either updates or do the icons again.

OS updates yes they have to update the plist for anything thats changed and updating an app i always have to reapply the icon but in candybar it has the identifier thing so i always just used that.
But as with any customization software YMMV and no two people have the same workflow so candybar may not be for some I agree with that, but the 3.4.4 version I have used from the free release has been really good to me so far just on occasion it crashes on its rendering thread but could be with my library having almost 5000 icons in it

Beautiful, thank you kindly you sexy hero. By the way, how did you customize your dock? you muscular megastar

What icon pack?

Hey! Thanks for the fix! I appreciate your hard work! Anyway, would you be so kind as to post the icon pack you used? Thank you!

Hi, Could you tell me how you customized your dock to be black. thanks in advance

The dock is a tweak made by a friend that wont let me release it. The icons are all iOS 7 style off of deviant art.

I don't necessarily want the dock... I just want to know where the resources are so I can change mine. Will your friend let you release that information???(Please?!?!)

It's code he wrote thats a rather dirty but working hack that allows me to change the dock resource changing doesnt work anymore

It's easy to have a nice organized library of icons and change them manually too. Just sayin'....

So, I put the folders you made into Candybar’s resources and now I can’t open Candybar at all. Doesn’t even pop up...

That's bizarre. I followed the instructions step by step and it worked flawlessly. Are you positive you didn't accidentally replace any additional files?

whoaaa, thank you! i almost give up changing those icon on 10.9, btw to bad candybar no longer supported, i used it for years :(

Oh well, then I must say **** CandyBar! If they won't release a new version that's compatible with Mountain Lion, much less Mavericks, then shame on them!

There's a ton of coinage to be made using this app that seems like everybody has used before. Previous versions for SL and Lion rocked! It's a pity no one there seems up to the task of making it usable for Mavericks. Well **** on them I say...use LiteIcon! It does the same thing for FREE.

I did the same thing, then i figured out u hv to put the file insede the English folder inside the other English folder in the app
