Hi, I recently updated to Mavericks on my iMac 2010. Since the update the Superdrive on the iMac doesn't appear to be working. It won't accept disks at all and you can't hear it make noise when turning on the mac.

Here's what I've done & know.

the drive IS showing up in System profiler and Disk Utility.
I have reset the PRAM
I have re-installed Mavericks

Still no life from the drive.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Try reinstalling Mountain Lion instead of Mavericks and see if it starts working again. If it does, then you have an extremely odd software problem with Mavericks. If it doesn't,t hen you just have a dead optical drive, and it dying with your upgrade to Mavericks was probably just a coincidence.

Superdrive failed in my 2010 iMac last week, same problem. Took it to Applestore and they diagnosed a faulty drive and are replacing it (luckily it still had 3 weeks of Applecare left).
