When i got the machine I remember not really hearing the fans now they are audible at 2000 rpm has anyone else noticed this do they gradually get noisier over time with wear and tear?

My suggestion is that you download smcFanControl.

You can tell your machine what speed to run the fans. If you have not downloaded it already, you also should get iStat Pro. Check out this MacRumors thread with a download link:

iStatPro will allow you to verify what speed your fans are running, along with other helpful info. :)
