when i first used iChat i entered a name into where it ask you too. that is the name that shows up in the iChat window. is there anyway the change the name?
 
yes, go into your address book and find yourself. Jus edit your name, it should change in iChat.
 
If you mean your AIM/.Mac ID, you can change that in the iChat preferences.
Menu Bar > iChat > Preferences
