Hi guys,

I just want to share some gaming experience on rMBP 13" (late 2013).
I have checked already league of legends and team fortress 2 - both run well on medium settings.

Are there any other modern games which our rMBP 13" could handle satisfactory?
Please, share your experience.

P.S.: what we have now (based on your reviews I will be adding more info below):
Alan Wake - at 1280 x 800 at medium settings runs tolerably.
Fallout 3 Vegas - It runs pretty good at max graphic settings (set in launcher) with 1440x900 resolution.
TERA online - it runs fine at 1440x900, graphic settings preset is 3, using these settings you can get 20 fps in city and 30 fps in dungeons.
Path of Exile - runs smoothly under bootcamp (win7) at high settings including screen resolution
Dead Space 3 - runs well
Tomb Raider - runs well at medium-high settings 30-45 fps
League of Legends - runs well at hight settings (1680x1050)
Team Fortress 2 - runs well
Black ops 2 - runs well
DOTA 2 - 1440x900 high settings no AA (30-40fps)
Counter Strike Global Offensive - runs well 45-55 fps (in Windows runs with better fps)
COD4 - runs well (same requirements as BF3)
Diablo 3 - runs fine at mostly high settings (1680x1050)
World of Warcraft - runs fine, 60fps at good settings (1680x1050)
Eve Online - runs fantastic, over 100 fps sometimes on decent settings
BF3 - runs ok at decent settings in campaign mode, multiplayer requires lower settings
Skyrim - runs surprisingly fine, even with middle of the road settings (35-40 fps)
Guild Wars 2 - medium setting 25/45FPS
Dow2 - playable at 1440x900 medium/high no aa (ave of 30fps)
Wargame airland battle - 1680x1050 medium settings (30-40fps)
Insurgency 2 - 1280x800 high settings (60-80fps) optimised for 60fps2
DayZ - low Settings averaged 30FPS. 1280 x 800; All low settings, NO AA/AS
Civilization 5 - runs well on default settings
X Com Enemy Unknown- is playable at 1280x800 at med/high settings
FTL - playable at 1280x800 med settings (full screen and no sync)
Star Wars: KotOR - playable at 1280x800 med settings
Kerbal Space Program - playable at 1280x800 med settings
The cave - runs great at default settings
Arma 3 / Breaking Point DayZ - runs at low on 1440 x 900 @ 20-30FPS (considered playable for Arma)
Bioshock Infinite - 1280x800 at high graphics settings is definitely playable, at medium is perfect.
Borderlands 2 - runs smoothly
Star Conflict - runs smoothly
BF4 - runs perfectly with low settings in 1280x720 (Running it on Windows 8.1 with lastest iris drivers and lastest update on Battlefield. rmbp 13 late 2013/8gb/512gb/i7 2.8).
30 or more fps. Most settings are on low with resolution at 1600x900.

What runs under Dolphin 4.0-481 version at 1.5x internal resolution, 1280x800 full screen:
WiiSports - 60 fps (only dips a frame or two here and there, completely playable)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 60 fps (same as WiiSports)
NBA JAM - 50-60 fps, with major dips at menus and sometimes at the start of a quarter.

FFXIV - unplayable lagging level even at low settings (20 fps)
Coh2 - unplayable 1280x800 low 15-20 fps

At 1200x800, it should run any modern game with at least adequate performance (>=30 fps) once you tweak the settings a bit.

i dont think those new games run that good. and, really, 30fps for a first person shooter is very very low!

i think league of legends etc. should run well

I never had any problems with first person shooters at 30-40 FPS. Then again, I don't play competitive PvP.

Just share your experience of succesfully tested games. Theoretically, you can run almost all modern games, but practically you may face unplayable fps or 640x480 resolution :) Therefore the real experience would be pretty useful. Maybe we could even make a list of well-playable games for rMBP 13".

league runs fine on mine, wouldn't not play bf4 tho. bf3 works great in a windows partition however

Sometimes, especially under constant GPU load I use heat dissipation for laptop.

Not got as many games as i used to have unfortunately but scrounged round a few mates for logins and tried out the following:

Diablo 3 (OSX native) runs fine at mostly high settings (shadows and a few others turned down and dropped the resolution to 1680x1050 to give it a helping hand). Wouldn't have any issue playing it on here.

World of Warcraft (OSX native) hovers around 60fps on good settings with the same resolution. More than playable but it does heat up a hell of a lot and the fans are at full tilt within 3 minutes or so. Checked on istat and the cpu is hitting 95 degrees after 10 minutes just standing around so wouldn't fancy playing it for any decent stretch without some sort of cooler.

Eve Online (OSX native) runs fantastic, best one i've tried so far, although it's pretty well optimised these days so i was expecting good things. Didn't get chance to jump into any big fleet stuff (been ages since i've played so didn't fancy messing around too much on my mate's account, but the few missions i jumped in ran perfectly, over 100 fps in some areas on reasonable settings)

Hope some of those help anyway, spec sheet is below if you need it. Not a gaming beast by any stretch, but pleasantly surprised with some of the games it managed to run!

quick question, what is the windows index score with the rmbp 13" ?

Just out of curiosity... could you take a screenshot of that please?

Also, can i ask you if it can run `Combat Arms´ ? It´s a 2009 game, but still, I´m wondering (?)

Pretty chuffed it can run skyrim and battlefield 3, my two only games more of a reason for me to downgrade to it from my early 2013 15 rmbp.

Just a note though, Battlefield 4 wasnt even playable on mine at 1280x800 with everything on low, its horribly optimised at the moment, give it a couple of months and things might improve.

Great thing is I'm witnessing on my 15 inch with 750M is better performance with OS X native apps running OpenGL than in Boot Camp with Windows 7 running DX11 and latest Nvidia drivers.

I do find the image quality to be far worse on the Iris Pro over the 750M in OS X however. Blur is not as good, textures do not look as sharp and transparency seem to be over transparent.

Guild Wars 2 - medium setting 25/30FPS all the time with FPS limiter at 30.

Generally I use the FRAME LIMITER set to 30, but the game without that option can run at 25/45 FPS for sure I think!

It depends. Valve's source engine games (HL2, portal, TF2, CS Go, L4D2, Dota 2) run much better on bootcamp. And this is with more than 3 years of optimizations done.

In OS X you get cursor lag and what could be described as dropped frames/choppiness. Eg. you may be running at 60+ frames per second but you will feel as though you have poorer control over your character.

If you are wondering, I've tested this on a few macbooks, gpus listed - the 320m, 330m, 9600m, HD 3000 and 750m.

But the comparison ends there, Dirt 2 runs as smooth in Windows as it does on OS X.
