Hi all,
Longtime lurker, but needed some expert advice. My good buddy is looking to upgrade the tech in his design mac, its an Early 2011 Macbook Pro. Specs are:
Processor: 2.2 Ghz i7
RAM: 16 GB of 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
15 inch screen, 2 SSDs, no optical drive.
We're good friends so he'll willing to part with it for $1,000 because the thing is all dented and scuffed up and he knows I would enjoy the power.
My needs and options: I do a lot of word processing, excel, powerpoint, and web-based activity as well as some adobe photoshop / illustrator work, some xcode programming, random video encoding, and hopefully some misc gaming on steam.
Would I be better served for the next 3 or so years with the MBPro or a 13" MBAir? I've tried my wife's 11" mbair and its too small for my to be comfortable ergonomically. I do most work in the living room in my chair at night as we hang out as a family.
I've tried to track down benchmarks on Anandtech but I feel like opinions here would be better.
