I'm trying to import photos from my iphone to iphoto on my Mac mini. When I connect iphone to itunes it says all are imported. Photos on my phone are not in iphoto in their respective date folder under events but they are in an event that says November 2013 photo stream. Are these photos locally on my Mac mini ? Usually the photos are in their own event. Thanks

Yes, those are stored locally on your machine. There is a setting in iPhoto prefs that tells it to auto import Photostream photos and that is what you are seeing. It makes a new one of those events for each month of Photostream data.
