Well, its just like any other hard drive. Backblaze has published some reliability data; according to their data, approximately 1 of 4 drives fail within the first 4 years; extrapolated, 50% of the drives would fail within 6 years.

That said, the most reasonable thing is to treat any storage medium as if it can fail any minute.

My 500GB 7200rpm drive in my early-2011 15" MBP blew up within 2 years.

I've got a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB silently running in there now

i've switched every two years, due to space. I've never had one go out due to use.
