Trying to play AVI movie files from my Canon camera in OS X 10.9.1 and having problems.

First I tried VLC. It will play a single file, but then basically locks up and you have to force quit.

Tried installing Perian for QuickTime, but still getting the same -101 error from QuickTime. So no go on that either.

I really don't want to need to convert my AVI files.

Try MPEGStreamclip:

However, remember that an avi file is a container for the video and audio components of the movie. Those components can be coded in various ways and you can only play them if the applications that you use can recognise those codes.

I downloaded Quick Time Player 7.6.6 and it plays the AVI files. I don't know why Quick Time 10.3 wont play AVI files.

VLC 2.1.2 is very buggy and won't work reliably for me in Mavericks.
