I do lots of hot yoga, where the studio is similar to a sauna with a high temperature/humidity, and it's not recommended to have your phone in the room as the humidity can damage the internals of electronics. One of my instructors ruined her iPhone by having it in class.

The typical temperatures inside of a sauna found on wikipedia:
temperatures typically between 158° to 212° F (70° to 100° C)

As per Apples tech specs on the iPhone 5s:
Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)

I wouldn't do it.

cnet.com tested the iPhone 5 in a freezer, a fish tank and an oven when it first came out.

Baked for 5 mins or so at around 250º, the iPhone 5 did just fine. Don't know about the 5s or any other model (I'd think the 5c might start melting).

But as another poster mentioned, the issue here is NOT heat – it's moisture. Liquid kills electronics. Take it in to a sauna or a place with high humidity and leave it there for a while and moisture collects. Get enough moisture collected and you have water, which is a liquid and will damage your device.

So, yeah, your device would probably survive the heat. But it probably would NOT survive the moisture.

And they act so shocked when their iDevices fail and/or their water sensors trigger. I don't think any of us with a brain do this.

These must be the same people that claim the water sensor in the iPad/iPhone is turning pink on their own and claim they never dropped it in the water, lol.

Enjoy the sauna, leave out the iPhone. It's like going to meditate and bringing your phone with you.

i work at a gym and i see people bring them into the dry sauna and even the steam room without thought. i never bring mine in there, way too hot or humid. I'm pretty sure normal operating temperature for an iPhone is only 95. I know our sauna is kept around 200 so i wouldn't risk it.

The answer is: probably.

As with anything, YMMV.

My mum has been de-icing her car windscreen using warm water for years and it has never cracked.. some people are just lucky.
