Ha, fun for nostalgia but I wouldn't care ever to go back to OS 9 for audio. Core Audio's ability to aggregate devices alone is worth using OS X (among many many other reasons) and the user interfaces for applications like Cubase and Logic have improved dramatically.

Yes, but surely worth for people on the very cheap side, though newer stuff can really be had for small money.

On core audio. Really great, but it didn't prevent my Presonus Firepod Firewire400 audio Interface from not being supported in 10.8 Mountain Lion.

So, to use Logic8 and my Interface I better stick with my PowerPC Hardware and Tiger.

Just curious...

What is "not supported" in Mountain Lion?

You can't "see" the Firepod using "Audio/MIDI Setup"?

You are smart! Just after I had typed it, I thought, if they (Presonus) maybe only write, that it is incompatible, because Macs shipped with Mountain Lion do not have Firewire400 anymore (though an adapter would do).

I do not have an Intel Mac, so I can't tell, if it is really not supported software-wise.

For my PowerPC-Mac it is just plug and play.

I first found that http://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/fp10 (it says, that for the Control panel, who needs this anyway?)

But here it states, that the machine itself is not supported in ML http://www.presonus.com/news/press_releases/Mac-OS-X-108-Mountain-Lion-Compatibility-Statement

I'm wondering if it is the _software_ for these boxes that is "broken" with Mountain Lion, rather than the boxes themselves?

Firewire is firewire.
CORE Audio is CORE Audio.

My guess is the box will be recognized by the OS when connected, but that Presonus has not updated the old software for compatibility with ML. I could be wrong.
