CSS strange problem - and what do you think of this way coding?

I created a website for a friend, but in firefox and safary there is a spacing on the top just as if there was an enter somewhere, and in explorer for mac (os9) it's just worse
2: how can I get the 2 block on the main page on the same height without enter?
Can anybody help me and maybe give some tips (should i convert it to xhtml?) is this a right way to create webpages?
I just created a simple page with notepad and didn’t design yet, but if have tips feel free to post them.

BTW in explorer for windows it’s displayed nearly perfect, also the fonts are rights

This will get rid of the spacing:

Code:
body { margin: 0; padding: 0; }
and why, oh why are you serving up content with javascript?
