Hello fellow interneters,

I'm in the process of acquiring a gaming pc these days. I have a 27" iMac from 2011 from before. If I get a GPU with a full size displayPort adapter, can I connect this to the imac and use the iMac as a monitor? My question is; do I need to get a gpu wtih mini display port out, or can I use any of the DP adapters to get this setup working.

Regards

DisplayPort will suffice and MonoPrice has DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cables.

EDITED TO ADD: That will not work with 2011 iMacs, only with 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs.

No it will not work. Only 2010 models allow an mDP input. 2011 onwards allow thunderbolt inputs only.

Sorry, forgot the year again. Yes, in 2011 (not in 2012 as my mind said to me) the iMac came with TB, thus you need a TB device like any current Mac to connect your iMac to in order to use it as external display.
