Dual Core Yonah PC Notebook Specs

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

NotebookReview posts specs and photos of the Acer TravelMate 8200 -- a PC notebook to be announced this week which will feature Intel's new dual-core Yonah processor.

To avoid any confusion -- this is a Windows PC laptop -- however the specs can give us some idea of what is capable from upcoming Intel based Mac laptops, which are rumored to share the Yonah processor.

The Acer TravelMate (photo) has the following specs:

- Core Duo 2.0GHz (Yonah)
- 2GB RAM, 15.4" Screen, SATA HD, ATI Radeon X1600 512MB
- 6.6 lbs
- 6 hours of battery life
- Carbon Fiber finish lid

Meanwhile, The Register reports that Intel has started shipping the 65nm Dual Core Yonah processors. The prices for the Intel processors are organized on this chart. Prices for the processors are for lots of 1000.

interesting, but would be nicer to see a price for all that, then see what Apple will have theirs at before i jumped to much excitement.

The link doesn't seem to be loading at the moment (bandwidth troubles? The title shows up but the page won't load).

What is the price on that laptop with those specs?

6.6 lbs - A bit heavy isn't it?
PB 17'' is 6.9lbs
I thought Yonah would lead to lighter laptops

6 hours battery life, uh oh. What happened to lower power=longer life. Good looking laptop but Apple will include an iSight in the lid. Heck, they should update the Cinema Displays with built-in iSights.

Large, heavy, ugly, but probably über-speedy Windows-PC laptop!

Make that:
Slim, light, beautiful, but probably über-speedy MacIntel laptop!

Ladies and gentlemen:

I concur. The finish of that contraption looks dubious.
The killer for me is the weight. I want a portable (read light) laptop.

Wow. Never thought I would ever see the day when 6.6lbs was defined as heavy. Let me drop off the Compaq luggable I have somewhere in my basement (Hidden under about a foot of dust no doubt.) or my Toshiba Satellite BEAST that weighs in just under 10lbs. That is weight.

*Does his best Arnold impression* What are you a bunch of girly-men?

As for the Acer. . . The thing as teh sexy under the hood but as usual is boring as heck for its design. Please Apple save the PC world again with some sort of moisture inducing design!

I said it before and I will say it again: Apple better hand out Huggies at MWSF's keynote or they are going to have one heck of a mess to clean up.

Quite a few current PC Notebooks of similar size currently have a battery life of about 3 hours ... so 6 hours is actually quite good in comparison.

This seems to be a desktop replacement/multimedia showcase type laptop given the 2gb of ram and 512mb on the graphics card. The price and weight should be largely disregarded, but what is impressive is the battery life - although given the size it probably has a big battery.

7 days til we find out.

wow...

alright guys.. for a windows laptop it's pretty nice ... but... 512mb graphic card!? thats just insane... i like the built in 1.3mp camera... but... the biggest problem here is still lack of OS X

cant wait to see what apple can do with the powerbook

The processor weighs VERY little, I doubt Yonah has much to do with weight other than allowing the heat sink to be smaller.

And with the top of the line specs on this thing (2 GB of RAM? And geez, look at that GPU) it probably needs a much bigger heat sink

Well... It's ugly.

Like someone said, I want to check out the price of this baby...

Will Apple someday wrap powerbooks with 2gb RAM standard, and a 512 mb video card???

They do sell diapers if you require some.

At least this is a good starting point for Apple. Either they match or exceed what is offered. Bring on the pressure.

Its appearance is typical OC notebook.

However it has VoIP, and a 1.3MP camera included.

And no wireless N, yet.

Interesting specs, but no performance data. I have a Dell XP Pro laptop that uses a 1.6GHz centrino and it's fast on single operations, but try to get it to multi-task and it just bogs down--browser freezes when downloading big files, etc. Perhaps that's an XP Pro (or just Windows) problem, but my TiBook performs much better that that Dell when you're actually trying to do work rather than read a single web page.

LMAO...I might have been too optimistic about just how light the Mactel laptop would be. But still PB 17'' is 6.9 and my guess is that the acer is around 15''.
I want a laptop to be as light as possible, since I need it to be truly portable. I don't mind if the CPU isn't lightning fast, since I have a desktop for more CPU intensive calculations.

You will get what you want. Think for a second... Remember the processor does not take up 6.6 punds. That laptop is fully loaded. I checked there website and that is there best travelmate model. Ofcourse it is going to be heavier.

1st of all its not a mac so some of the guts of the computer are heavier. macs are specifically made to be lighter. The weight of the new laptops wont change much accept the new ibooks will likely be lighter, with a highly anticipated new design.

Also, mac would not go with a chip for the ibooks/mac minis that would highten prices. They want to lower ibook prices to compete with dell,hp, etc. At macworld you will see a brand new ibook 799.99. The Mac mini prices will stay the same because Jobs will likely update them significantly besides the new processors.

Also remeber one thing. Apple can afforrd to go with slower processors because the MAC OS is much more simple than windows. Ever wonder why when your ibook had a 500 mhz processor it still outperformed a windows pc with a 1.5 ghz processor. The MAC OS is easier on a processor than windows.

They're the kind of specs i'd like to see in the new PBs, plus at least 10 other brilliant new features from Apple
