"Snow Leopard on my daily driver computer" user here, who's dabbled with Lion.

Got questions about Mavericks's window management.
I've set up windows to minimize to their application icon, because my dock is on the left side and this setting allows the dock to take up less space.
However, after minimizing, the windows are gone for all intents and purposes. Back in Snow Leopard you could click and hold the application icon, or scroll over it (multitouch trackpads) to see minimized windows. Now in Mavericks, short of opening them back up, I can't see them.

Also, "Application Windows" is a bit weird. Yes, it works, but in after entering it, pressing tab to switch between applications, works also (as expected), but no longer highlights the corresponding app in the Dock. Instead, you have to identify the app based on the contents of the window.

For both my issues - is this normal? Am I doing anything wrong, or is this what Mavericks is like now?
