Can you do "strike through" on a Mac?

Try Format>Font>Show Fonts for that option in most applications

That's exactly what I'm looking for. After font I go to styles where it indicates I can choose and apply strike through but nothing happens And I can't find format.
This is probably not your situation but it is for me since I do it every now and then. The text that is to show "strike through" has to be highlighted. Then select the format option.
I highlight the word, and I can get to the strike through panel and with the options of Elect, Apply, and Done - but nothing puts a line through what I've highlighted. I can do it in Text/Edit but not in a reply in an online forum message.

For the forum message you have to use vBulletin markups
[ strike ] text [ /strike ]
but remove all of the spaces
