I looked up "strike through" and followed the Windows version but I can't make it work on my Macbook Pro, nor can I find it in the search feature. Is it available somehow under a different name? Thanks.

Are you talking about strike through?

Try Format>Font>Show Fonts for that option in most applications

That's exactly what I'm looking for. After font I go to styles where it indicates I can choose and apply strike through but nothing happens And I can't find format.

I highlight the word, and I can get to the strike through panel and with the options of Elect, Apply, and Done - but nothing puts a line through what I've highlighted. I can do it in Text/Edit but not in a reply in an online forum message.

What application are you using?

I downloaded Maverick the last time.

For the forum message you have to use vBulletin markups
[ strike ] text [ /strike ]
but remove all of the spaces
