Power Mac / Microphone troubles. It doesn't hear me.

Hey,

I just pluged a microphone into the audio-in spot and went to system prefs and set it to audio-in and turn up the mic volume and nothing!

I want to get this mic going for chat. What do I do next to figure this out? I tried another mic so that is out of the question....

I'm lost. and my PM still can't hear me. Could you imagin being deaf. That wouldn't be good. So help a brother out....

I did some searching and I found one. Found it cheaper on eBay. It's the same one as the Apple Store's. I should have it in a week.
