Need to reformat my 3GS and was wondering which iOS is should put on it? Seems that Apple wants it to have 6.1.3 but will the phone cope with that?

I found 6.1.3 to be better than previous 6.x.x! But it still lags sometimes! The perfect iOS would be 4.x.x it's super fast but you lose in apps

What about 5.1.1 since 4.x.x is difficult to install. Otherwise 6.1.3. it is.

Seems like it would be 6.1.6 at this point actually.

Apple is still signing iOS 4.1 for the iPhone 3GS, so you could try that (if you don't have SHSH blobs for other versions of iOS).

Issues with 4.1:
* sometimes initiating a call will fail.
* poor app compatibility!
* old notification system and no iCloud.

Other than that, I would go with iOS 6.1.6. I have no idea why 6.1.3 is mentioned so much in this thread.
