Hi, I'm new round here -- a keen lurker for years, but this is my first post.
Apologies that my first contribution is a question, but I need some advice. I'm just about to take the big step (for me) of upgrading a Core2Duo iMac to a 27" 2011 i5 iMac. The new (well, secondhand) iMac has factory-fitted 256GB SSD and 1TB HD, currently configured separately.
On my old iMac I divided the HDD into three partitions:
1. OS X and Applications.
2. All my data
3. Windows (albeit Parallels VM)
I'm keen to stick to a similar setup on the new iMac as it will make migration easier, although I'll probably eventually move the Parallels/Windows virtual disc into one of the other two partitions.
So, should I create a Fusion Drive from the SSD and HDD, then partition it?
Or should I divide the SSD into, say, 100GB and 156GB partitions, creating a Fusion Drive with the 156GB partition and the 1TB HDD? Then put OS X, Applications and Windows virtual disc on the 100GB partition, and all my data on the Fusion drive?
Am I overcomplicating this? Am I missing something obvious? Does it really matter or make any difference? Will it complicate my migration if I go from three partitions to one (if I create one giant fusion drive)?
As you can see I'm really confused...any advice would be a godsend.
Many thanks.
