Help early 2008 4,1 upgrade

I put in New memory (4 & 2GB) as well as a new hard drive...upon start up beeping noise and blank screen. The old drive is connected via USB.beeping still persists regardless of old drive connected or not....beeping noise and blank screen cannot be good.. any advice before I take to repair shop tomorrow?
