Hi new to fourms here, I got a couple of questions about a powerlogix 1.8ghz single cpu.

My G4 (AGP) has a powerlogix 1.8ghz @ 100mhz FSB cpu. I was reading up on over-clocking the FSB with open frimware to reach 133mhz FSB on mobo. However, I was wondering since my powerlogix cpu is at 100mhz FSB would it operate a 133 mhz too or would it just change my FSB ratio (currently 1:1)??

That brings me to my next question is if I have to would I have to solider the anything or de-solider anything on the CPU card so it would operate @133mhz FSB?

The main reason I'm confused about this is the CPU can go either in to a DA and QS that operate @133 FSB so would the CPU just adjust automatically the FSB ratio to 1:1? I know that I would Have to adjust the multiplier accordingly. The Jumper/Dip switches can be found her along with picture of either the same or vary close to the same card.

I have the 7457 Dual 1,2GHz PowerLogix CPU. If I recall correctly, when I bought it, the auction said "only for PowerMac G4 "AGP" and "GE"". Which is the 100MHz FSB models.

BUT! You may want to search here:

This is interesting though (for historic reasons):

Changing the fbus speeds in OpenFirmware isn't an overclock. It changes the reported speed, nothing else. To overclock it, you have to modify the resistors. Most Sawtooths (your model) don't work well or at all above 120Mhz.

I was thinking the same thing about the open frimware how ever after reading up on a couple sites it looks like the 120mhz FSB mod of the MOBO is a bypass to the open frimware FSB.

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G4ZONE/sawtooth/SawtoothCPUdesign.html

this part was what i found interesting this is as this is Low Jitter Spectrum Clock Generator for PowerPC Designs

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G4ZONE/sawtooth/sg500.pdf

Looks like the FSB is controlled by the frimeware do to it being setup for tristate default configuration on the G4 MOBO.

I'm probly why off on this aspect of the hole thing.
