I have completed a script that backs up the home folders onto a shared server that our company has. But now I want the script to run automatically every week so that the user doesn't forget to backup every week.

How can I tell OS X to run a script every 7 days?

Scheduling Scripts

In the past, I had a fairly large number of scripts that I needed to run at scheduled times. I used Script Timer for that. There are likely newer versions of this same concept, but the developer is very active and easy to reach and it did everything I needed it to and more.

You could do it 'natively' though. In Calendar/iCal with an event, you can have it trigger an "Alarm". The alarm can be "Run Script". Point it to your script, set up how often it should repeat. I've used this method with success too. Nothing extra to purchase, using onboard tools.
