Best App to capture Streaming Video?

Hi all. I am used to using "iSkysoft Free Video Downloader for Mac" for downloading YouTube videos and then converting them with HandBrake for :apple:TV and iPad, but occasionally I need to download videos that are not hosted on YouTube. What app does everybody here use and what are the benefits/drawbacks compared to other apps? Thanks for the help.

I use DownloadHelper, a free Firefox extension. I use it for YouTube and Vimeo but have not tried it for streaming content.
