Mac Mini 2010: Samsung 840 EVO slowly

Accept the fact, that your 2010 Mac mini uses S-ATA 3.0 Gbps (S-ATA II) as interface and that the sequential read and write speeds you experience are okay for that.
You will hardly notice the difference, as the latency of that drive (the random read and write speeds and finding the correct files needed for the execution of whatever you do) is still fast enough to not hamper your experience.
Unless you really need the 500 MB/s read speeds of course, which is probably not the case.
You made a good match! Be happy that you did not get the 840 pro. The EVO 840 also tops around 250MB/s. OK, it has a short turboboost on the first 3-9GB, but after that it is more like the numbers you mention. If only you could disable its cache to enhance the lifespan.... The caches is pretty useless on SATA 2 (3Gb/s)
Crucial m500s seem to be pretty cheap these days. Really any brand will be plenty fast for SATAII. Check the online reviews and pick one you like.
I just put an 840 EVO in my late 2008 Aluminum Macbook and am getting similar speeds to the OP, I'm going to be getting a new drive for my wife's older Mac soon and will probably get her an M500.

I have the 830 in my 2010 mini. I'm getting the same speeds you are with the 840. See if you can find a deal on last year's model and save a little cash!
You will get 490-500 MB/s on Early 2011 MBP, this is the practical cap of the SATA3 connector on that specific batch of MBPs. The 840 EVO is a very close match to this speed, so yes put it in your MBP and then buy something much lesser for the Mini.
every one prefer samsung ssd for the price and performance you are the first one how mention OZC Vector i never heard of it before i will just take the evo from the MBP and i will buy crucial M500 120GB for the mini because many people recommend it and also the cheapest in the market and also my mini has limit speed so i think this is my best choice
i think i'm going with crucial M500 120GB it the cheapest for now and satisfy performance and the old one will be dual drive i will take caddy adapter
