Offline-Catalogueing of disks & media...

Hi,

as I am new to the mac world I maybe have a stupid question about OSX functionality...

As far as I know spotlight is not able to search offline media. Is that right? Or is there a way to index the content and when searching something get an answer from spotlight that refers to an offline disk!?

If there is no functionality like that, my question is:

Does anyone know or can recommend a software that is able to index / catalogue my disks & media to make them offline searchable!?

Any advice would be appreciated,
