Mail Problems

Sometimes when I reboot my computer, my e-mail program starts opening my mail in a bottom window from the mail screen. I do not want this mail viewed/opened unless I double click it myself, however, I cannot find where to turn this off. I know it can be done because there are other times that it does not do this (after rebooting). Can someone please help me with this.
