Early 2011 13" MBP: can it do 16GB RAM or only 8GB?

I'm looking to upgrade my early-2011 13" MBP. I've seen conflicting information from Apple and Crucial about what the max RAM I can run might be. Crucial says they "guarantee" I can run 16GB and Apple says the max is 8GB.

Which one is it? Can I order the 2x8GB and successfully/safely install them?

Apple only guarantees 8GB, many people have done the 16GB upgrade without any problems.
I would also think that if Crucial say you can do the 16GB and you end up not being able to, they should refund you under the distance selling rules.

Awesome, thank you. Between that and an SSD upgrade this MBP will have some new life.

been running 16 gigs of crucial ram for a few months, issue free. Tomorrow after the UPS guy shows up I will also be installing a Samsung 840 EVO 1 TB SSD.

Runs A LOT FASTER RIGHT NOW, opening things like CS6 and FCPX takes 5 seconds or less. Saving files also faster. Cannot wait for the SSD to really speed things up.

I had 16 gb in my previous mac and they worked flawlessly . mounted samsung sticks. SSD will be the most noticeable improvement, however

It was an early 2011 13" with i7 dual core. 2.7 GHz I guess the CPU clock was

I just installed this 1TB SSD last night.

Computer got a fresh Mavericks install last night, and it feels magnificent.. boot up to password is like 8 or 9 seconds. opening FCPX and PS6 simultaneously is like 3 or 4 seconds max.

I have never had this site let me down on over a dozen MBP and iMacs that I have added RAM to.. Just find out exact machine specs (About This MAC) and 'follow the breadcrumbs' here.. I am fairly confident that 16GB is likely the answer, but this should confirm it.. Happy Hunting!! :apple:
