I have a SanDisk Cruzer fit thumb drive. When I delete something from there it goes to trash in the bar on the bottom. Is the file going to my SSD on my Mac? Then when I empty the the trash am I deleting it from my Mac hard drive?

When you delete something from the USB drive, OS X will tell a command to the USB that the file of the USB is in the trash. The file is not moved to your internal drive in any way, as when the file is in the trash and the USB is ejected, the file in the trash disappears too and only reappears when you insert the USB drive again.

When you empty the trash, you're deleting it from your USB.

PS this thread should be in the OS X forum, not the MBP forum, as it's a software question.
