I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 13 Retina OCT 2013(2.4/4gb/128gb) from bestbuy. It was open box but whoever bought it returned it the very next day not even unwrapping the charger. Good as new.
Paid $970.. Before tax.

Was it a steal?

Since to the cheapest you are going to find it for brand new is $1200, I'd say you did pretty good. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a steal, since you can technically get an official Apple Refurb for $1100.

It's okay. You saved about $100 compared to a refurbished. The only issue with a open box is you don't why the previous owner returned it.

I was going to buy an open box Mac mini at Best Buy a few months ago. I asked if I could inspect the machine. Since it was open box, they let me check it out. I popped the bottom cover and found it someone had snapped the WiFi and RAM slots.

Anyways for $60 more you can get a 2012 refurbished one with twice the amount of RAM:

I would say it's a steal. You can't get it anywhere else am I right? Not on the Apple store, anywhere. So yeah it's great deal IMO. You saved 130 bucks. You can use that for a lot of Kushp14 lol.
