I want to close an application. It is not anywhere visible on my dock, and when i open up the menu to force quit applications it is not anywhere there. When I try to move it to the trash, it says I cannot do so because it is open. How can i close it?

Open Activity Monitor and select the app/process then click the X at the top left to quit/force quit the app or process.

Have you tried holding down the CMD and TAB until you come across the application you wish to quit use CMD+Q to quit an application?
